Two steps, no keyboard.
Homeboard finds your server on the network, then you sign in from your phone by scanning a code. The television never asks you to type anything.
Before you start
- 01A Home Assistant server
Running and reachable. Homeboard controls nothing without one.
- 02A supported television
Today that means LG on webOS 3.0 or later, on the same network as the server. Other platforms are planned.
- 03A phone
Used once, for the sign in step.
No server yet? Choose Try the demo on the first screen. The whole application runs on fictional data, with no network and no account. To leave it later, open Settings and choose Exit demo.
Step one, find the server
Choose Connect Home Assistant. Homeboard looks for servers on your local network and lists what it finds, with the address and version of each. Pick yours.
If the list stays empty, and some networks do block discovery, choose Enter the address on my phone underneath. That path also covers a server reached from outside the house.
Step two, sign in from your phone
A code appears on the television. Scan it, and a page opens on your phone where you sign in to your own server. The television connects by itself a moment later.
Nothing is typed on the television, and your credentials never pass through our servers. The exchange between your phone and your television is encrypted end to end. The access token that results is created on the television and stays there.
When it does not work
- 01No server is found
Check that the television and the server are on the same network. Guest networks and some mesh setups isolate devices from each other. Use the phone entry path instead.
- 02The server is remote
A public HTTPS address works, whether it comes from Nabu Casa Cloud, a reverse proxy or your own domain. Discovery is local only, so enter the address from your phone.
- 03A banner says the server is unreachable
It appears after eight seconds without a reply, and Homeboard keeps trying on its own. It clears itself when the server answers again.
- 04A device is missing
Homeboard shows what your server exposes. A device hidden in Home Assistant, or belonging to no area, may not appear. You can also hide devices yourself in Settings.
- 05Cameras look frozen
They are snapshots, not video. Change the refresh interval in Settings.
- 06Starting over
Settings has a sign out that erases the address and the token.
